How to Vermicompost

While vermicomposting can be done commercially, this article is going to focus exclusively on building and maintaining a smaller system for home use (or for use in school classrooms).
How to Vermicompost
Step 1:
Decide where you're going to place your vermicompost container

Prepare the vermicompost container

Prepare the worm bedding

Start saving food and garden scraps

Adding worm food to the vermicompost bin

Order the vermicompost worms

How to Vermicompost Summary:
1. Select and prepare a vermicompost container/bin.
2. Prepare the bedding for the worms.
3. Begin saving organic materials as food for the worms.
4. Order your vermicomposting worms.
5.
Add the worms to the vermicompost bin.
6. Periodically feed and maintain the worm bin.
7. Harvest
the worm compost/castings.
8. Expand to additional bins, as the worm population grows (optional).
Materials Needed for Vermicomposting:
- storage bin or similar container
- handful of dirt or potting soil
- cardboard sheet
- dirt or potting soil
- bedding material
- suitable table scraps/garden waste
- drip tray or bucket
- worms
- spray bottle (optional)
- cinder blocks or bricks (optional)
